Pattaya has always had a reputation, as a sex only resort, so is it a good resort for a family holiday?

The revenue achieved in Pattaya from the sex only holiday tourist is immense! Don`t be fooled - there`s so much money gained from the overall sex industry in Thailand – especially in Pattaya, that the authorities there, (mainly T.A.T.) Thailands` Official Tourist Authority, fail to disclose any information or income gained from this highly lucrative sex industry.

However, despite “turning a blind eye” in Pattaya, they are trying (very successfully) to promote both the family holiday market, along side their highly lucrative sex trade.

Investment to promote Pattaya as a good resort for a family holiday has been massive. More and more condominiums, family attractions and hotels appear to spring up almost on a daily basis. It has attracted worldwide interest, and now boasts one of the largest shopping complexes in Asia. But despite all this, is it a good resort for a family holiday?

In my opinion – NO! The beach in Pattaya is like a Thai bar girls waist! It`s a thin strip, with nothing on it. Not only that, the adjoining sea is filthy, because most of the waste from Pattayas sewers is pumped straight into it. The “solution” was to build a vastly ineffective filtration plant, and install it right on the beach? So does that sound like an ideal resort for a family holiday? Don`t get me wrong, there`s plenty of cheap affordable luxury accommodation there, that will more than compensate for the "refinements" the beach in Pattaya lacks!

In addition, the sex trade is still highly prevalent. As a sex only holiday resort, Pattaya still features in the world’s top three choices for single males. They are not interested in the beach in Pattaya. Instead they look for numerous bars, bar girls, fun and sex, all of which are plentiful, and despite the 2am official "closing time", all such amenities are available 24/7.

Pattayas Tourist Authorities have gone to great extent and expense, to be “seen” to clean up the sex industry. They haven`t, and because of the massive lucrative “hidden revenue” from sex – they don`t really want to. Yes, they have moved most of the sex bars off beach road and the immediate surrounding areas, but they`ve been encouraged to relocate again in other nearby locations (most are within walking easy distance). Soi Bhukow is becoming the latest sex developing attraction/area, because of it`s cheaper surroundings. So, not only is it flourishing, but being cheaper it`s ideal for other similar sex establishments to develop too.

The sex industry will still continue to flourish in Pattaya, despite all the attempts  by the authorities to "be seen", to transform Pattaya into an ideal family holiday holiday resort.They`re not banning or prohibiting the lucrative sex industry, they`re only trying to hide it. In doing so, they hope to make Pattaya a holiday resort that appeals to both the sex tourist, and those wishing for a Asiatic dream family holiday too. In other words, they want the best of both worlds!


Whatever investment is made, Pattaya is an immensely popular and flourishing holiday resort for both families, and the single sex traveller alike. There`s always something for everyone in Pattaya, so check it out and judge for yourselves. After all said and done - Pattaya is a holiday resort unlike anywhere else in the world, so try it, and enjoy it!
